FAQs
How does this work?
We’ll show up to your property, humanely dispatch your animal, then skin it, gut it, and hang it in our truck’s cold room. We’ll then deliver the halves or quarters to the butcher shop of your choice. After hanging there, the butcher shop will break it down according to your custom cut instructions, and then you’ll pick up your meat from their shop when they call to tell you it’s ready.
Do I have to dispose of the guts myself?
That’s up to you! We can absolutely haul away the guts for an additional $30 per head, as listed above in our pricing section. If you’d prefer to dispose of them yourself, you can also do that. Our recommendation is to bury them if you choose to dispose of them yourself.
Do I have to stay and watch?
If at all possible, we’d prefer that someone meet us on site when we arrive to point out which animals to process. Once we know that, whether you stay or leave is completely up to you. Some people watch everything, some people leave for the kills and come back for the processing, and some people don’t watch anything. Our goal is to make this as comfortable for you as we can!
What happens to the edible organs?
Whether you are disposing of the guts or we are hauling them away, we are happy to separate out the edible organs for you to keep, either for yourself or your dogs. If you would like to keep them, please have a clean container ready for us to use when we arrive. A large bowl, clean bucket or a cooler are common options.
When do I find out weights?
After we deliver the carcasses to the butcher shop, they will contact you to give you the weights and to get your cut list. If you are selling your livestock in shares, this is also when they will get your buyers’ information to then contact those people to get their cut lists. If you have any questions in regards to cut options, we recommend calling the butcher shop you’ll be working with directly.
My animal got hurt, can you get here ASAP?
As livestock farmers ourselves, we understand how detrimental it can be to lose an animal before processing day. If you have an emergency arise and want to salvage the meat, please call us. As long as the animal is still breathing, we will do everything we can to squeeze you in and help you avoid a loss. If we aren’t already working in your area, please note that a $100 emergency fee will apply.
